When they reached the long backless divan, he stretched her out on it. She made a move to sit up but he placed a hand on the middle of her chest to still her. Her heartbeat beneath his fingertips was as wild as his own. He stroked his palm down her torso once, wanting to imprint himself on her. Her skin was smooth and soft and he wanted her to remember everywhere he’d touched.

For the first time since he’d met her, all he could see was a hunger that matched his own in her dark eyes. She laid back, a sweet, secretive smile teasing her full lips as she slid her hands behind her head and watched him.

Seeing her like that, just waiting for him, lit up his desire with the intensity of a pulse gun firing. Her bronzed skin seemed to glow under the moon and starlight. His fantasies didn’t even come close to the reality of Leilani half-naked and wanting him.

After he’d tugged off her boots, he crawled up her body. The furniture was big enough for warriors and built strong for his people. He’d never had a female here so seeing her here meant something to him.

He knew she’d only agreed to a moon cycle with him, but deep down he wondered if maybe it could be more. Hoping for that seemed foolish given what he knew of females. But she wasn’t a Luminet woman and he’d heard that all the human females mated to his people were happy. None had left their mates. And he knew some had only mated with one male, not two. Perhaps he had a chance for more.

“Come here,” she murmured, sliding one hand behind his neck and the other up his chest as she tugged him down on top of her.

The feel of her soft fingers gliding over him made it impossible to think. He slanted his mouth over hers, savored it when she moaned into him. Most of his experience was with off-worlders, usually a paid professional. Kissing had never been high on his list of priorities but now he understood why so many mated males enjoyed kissing their mates.

He’d never been with a human so he had to force himself to calm down. She might not act fragile, but he wanted to be careful. He wanted to do this right—because this couldn’t be a one-time thing. When he’d learned she’d been out with Daan, and then she hadn’t returned his communications, he’d been worried. Then just angry after he’d received a report from the security division that she’d been located on multiple monitors and was fine. This possessiveness he felt for her was confusing, but he embraced it.

When her hands trailed down his chest and started to push at his trousers, he reached between their bodies and stopped her.
